Lady Elliot Island stopped selling bottled drinking water in November 2012 as part of our commitment to reduce waste and carbon emissions. The water produced on the Island is pure desalinated seawater with no additives. We recommend that guests use refillable bottles to keep hydrated prior to undertaking water sports activities, pure water is available from drinking fountains located around the resort or from taps in the guest rooms. Dehydration is one of the major causes of cramps and panic attacks when diving or snorkelling. A variety of refillable bottles are available for purchase at the Lagoon Bar or the Gift Shop.

Reef Education Centre
Our recently refurbished Reef Education Centre provides an area for guests and education groups to learn about the flora, fauna, marine life and history of Lady Elliot Island. Featuring informative wall graphics, fact sheets and educational videos this is a great place to learn more about one of the richest, most complex and bio diverse ecosystems in the world… the Great Barrier Reef.
The runway at Lady Elliot Island runs in 17/35 direction, 10 degrees off magnetic north and is made from hard based coral with a layer of natural grass irrigated nightly by the WWTP system. The runway is only used during daylight hours with a portable lighting system used on rare occasions for night operations. The turf provides a great place for a game of cricket and is a haven for the birdlife which is accustomed to the air traffic. As in integral part of the island landscape, the runway blends in and a red flashing light, or an occasionally audible horn, is used to caution crossing guests that a plane is approaching or about to depart. Our guests often join the Island Team to welcome or farewell other guests. A low rope rail is in place on the southern end and south-eastern end to warn guest walking of the proximity of the runway.
