Buff Banded Rail


Buff Banded Rail (Rallus philippensis) This is a common rail with a short orangey brown bill. Horizontal striping on head, buff on forehead over top, white stripe from bill over eyebrow to back of head.  Chestnut stripe from bill over eye and down back of neck, throat grey.  chest and undercarriage black with white bars, orange horizontal stripe at midchest.Wings brown with some black feathers with white spots.  Legs pink brown. Adult size from 29 to 33cm. Found in grassy or reedy areas, or thickly vegetated habitats near water.  Commonly found on the ground and rarely flies.
