Blue Angelfish, Koran Angelfish, Semicircled Angelfish and Zebra Angelfish.

Blue Angelfish (Pomacanthus semicirculatus) primarily inhabits the shallow coral reefs and inshore waters, and can be found in the Lagoon at Lady Elliot, the southern most Great Barrier Reef Island. The adults have small blue spots on a brownish to yellowish background.  A bright blue ring accentuates the eye, and when seen side on the body appears to be outlined in a bright blue.  Maximum length in an adult is about 38cm.  The Blue Angelfish has also been known as  Koran Angelfish, SemicircledAngelfish and Zebra Angelfish.  Some of the names are due to the appearance of the juvenile fish where they have a semicircular pattern of electric blue, black and white.  They tend to frequent crevices. In the transition from juvenile to adult the Blue Angelfish may appear stripped on a spotted background.
