Lady Elliot Island celebrates Environmental Tourism Award

Over 300 of the region’s best tourism operators saw Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort take out the Environmental Tourism Award for the third year in a row at the Fraser Coast Tourism Awards held at Hervey Bay RSL.

The Minister for Tourism, Jann Stuckey and the Great South East presenter Sofie Formica looked on as Peter Gash, Managing Director of Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort took to the stage to collect the award, his passion evident when giving his speech.

Our Ecotourism initiatives, including the implementation of a solar power station that has reduced fuel burn on the island by over 70% in the last four years, have been very successful. We decided to enter the awards because we are passionate about inspiring other operators to embrace ecotourism and the benefits it has on a business and environmental level.

To win this award is an honour and I hope it encourages other operators to be forward thinking and invest in ecotourism initiatives. said Mr Gash.

Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at next year’s Fraser Coast Tourism Awards.
