Kayak Expedition

Three kayakers from Brisbane have embarked on a three week kayak expedition from Hervey Bay to Yeppoon! Paul Wilton, Garry Forrest and Eddie Safarik left Urangan on Sunday 25 July and spent two nights paddling up to Sandy Cape. Their kayaks are fully stocked with food and camping gear, enough for three weeks.

The group departed Sandy Cape at 2.00am en route to Lady Elliot Island in rough conditions encountering seasickness, sharks and trawlers as well as seeing a whale or two. The crossing took them 16 hours, arriving at Lady Elliot at 6.15pm. They are spending 3 days on the island before the next leg of their expedition.

From here (weather permitting) they plan to paddle to Lady Musgrave Island, Masthead, Northwest and possibly Heron Island. Then it’s on to the Keppel Group completing their journey at Yeppoon.
