To the Wonderful Staff at Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort
On behalf of Marine Teacher's Association of Queensland I would like to thank you all for your very professional and tireless work to ensure our 2006 annual conference was a memorable one.
Incredibly impressive were the pilots that so loyally flew this eager bunch, both flapping their hats and clicking their cameras so safely to our conference destination.
Marine educators are dedicated to the marine environment that they teach about and were very impressed with the knowledge and care the LEI staff provided for our visit. The goals of sustainability and protection of the island were obvious the moment we stepped foot from the planes. Our introduction to the island was informative and your expectations made clear.
MTAQ members and associates were very impressed with the education facilities and programs on offer at LEI. Many teachers were discussing the opportunities they may have to bring school groups here to achieve curriculum outcomes. The collections of specimens, informational posters and historical memorabilia were awesome and well kept. The technology available at the island was also a bonus as teachers could use this to deliver information via computer, dvd and video, and digital projector.
"LEI would have to have the best coral straight off the shore, I have seen in a long time,” stated one of the teachers. Suitably impressed with the underwater world of LEI, made it very difficult to get the members out of the water in time for meals and entertainment. The biodiversity was exemplary and would well reward any teacher bringing a school group to this paradise.
I have already been back for a visit with the family - truly awesome!
Again thank you for the best conference to date!
