Winter Wonderland - Chapter 2
Is it your dream to swim with Manta Rays?? I don't want to sound like I"m bragging but we do it with regular occurrence during the winter months on Lady Elliot. On particular days you could be in the water with up to 20 at a time. I’m not talking 2 miles way out off the island either; we get them right off the keyway at the light house just a few kicks with your fins off the beach. You don’t need to be a diver to see them. They are just as easily accessed and viewed with a mask, snorkel and fins (oh, and a wetsuit if you don’t have that layer of natural insulation like I do J). Mark and the rest of the dive crew have taken I.D. shots of over 100 individual Manta Rays who visit to our reefs throughout the year, so why not take your own shots and go into to the dive shots and compare yours with the dive crews shots. They all have names so you can see who you made friends with. If you don’t have an underwater camera you can purchase a disposable camera from the boutique shop on the island. Trust me, they take just as good a photo as a digital camera.
