EARTH HOUR - Lady Elliot Style!
On March 31st 2007, Australia had its first Earth Hour with more than
2 million Sydney businesses and households turning off
their lights for one hour – Earth Hour – sending a powerful national and global message that it’s possible to take action on climate change.
At 8:30pm on 28th March 2009, Earth Hour once again goes global, with cities and towns around the world taking stand on the greatest threat our planet has ever faced, and millions of people uniting to turn the tide on climate change.
Here on Lady Elliot we are not only turning out our lights, we are in fact turning off . . . ALL power on the island!
Being a self contained community powered by Solar power, we can stop all energy usage and be in the unique position to experience a coral cay in an entirely natural perspective.
Take advantage of this unique opportunity to enjoy the serenity and beauty of our coral cay in its moonlit splendor by taking part in our special program of events!

After a day of fun and activity come along to our. . .
- 5:00 Hybrid Power Station Tour. There are many things that we can do to avert climate change. Join Wayne in the Education Centre to find out what we have done on Lady Elliot and what you can do to help in everyday life!
- 5:30 Nibbles and Champagne. Join us at the Hybrid power Station to celebrate our clean green energy machine, and get ready for lights out!
- 6:00- 7:30 BBQ Dinner Island style. Join us on the western deck for a candlelit BBQ
- 8:20 Count down to … Earth Hour! Bring along your torch and cylum stick to be ready for the lights to go out for an hour.
For those that would like to help start a lifetime voyage, we will head out into the night to release our little turtle hatchlings, gaze at the stars, scurry after land hermit crabs, and listen to the natural sounds of our Coral Cay!
Candles will provide a serene ambience in the bar, so if you would prefer a romantic candlelit night make your way to the Lagoon Bar.
