The glass bottom boat was action packed today with turtles surfacing all around the boat. Guests were absolutely thrilled to see them with one guest saying “You really weren’t lying when you said they were everywhere!” A black tip reef shark came through the area for a look and stayed long enough for one couple to get a great photo. When everybody was back on board their smiles said it all. A show of hands had everybody on board see a turtle from the water which always puts a smile on the faces of staff as well. Coming back through the keyway it was low tide so guests had to do a short walk back to the beach. On the way back over the reef flat one child came across what he thought was a giant slug. It actually turned out to be the amazing black tailed sea hare which is basically a marine snail without the shell.
After a delicious buffet lunch guests came on a guided reefwalk through the lagoon. On their journey they found the always impressive Blue Linkia Sea Star on the sandy path. Then just as luck would have it, around the corner they found a New Caledonian Sea Star so guests had the opportunity to get some great photos with both species. Guests were told about the strange pearl fish and were perplexed to hear its unusual day time hiding place is in the bottom of a Leopard Spot Sea Cucumber!
The divers had a fantastic day in the water as well. Out at lighthouse bombie they immediately saw some Manta Rays which got the dive off to a great start. At Spiders Ledge a group of bronze whalers was seen cruising past in the distance. They are quite large sharks and it gave everybody a massive thrill to see them out there.
