Sunshine! We love it and the guests do too!

It was beautiful out on the glass bottom boat today and it was made all the more special by a visit by a special little friend. A green turtle dubbed “Curious George” by one of the guests stayed at one of the moorings at second reef and begged for the attention of those guests that were snorkeling. They were happy to give it to him as well with some truly unforgettable photo’s being taken next to the turtle, under the turtle, group photos with the turtle, it was amazing! It was one of the friendliest turtles our guide can remember and everybody had already had a very memorable day without going 5m from the boat. The usual incredible diversity of brightly coloured fish was also present right along second reef with the butterfly fish being tipped as everybody’s favourite fish for the day.

In the afternoon guests enjoyed learning about some of the history of island on the Island Discovery Tour. They couldn’t believe that at one stage the island was completely devoid of vegetation and that for a time there were no white capped noddy’s out here. It would be hard to imagine this island without these charismatic characters always being around.

During dinner today a turtle nest came out right in front of the bar and under the supervision of trained staff guests helped to collect them up and put them in a bucket. In all 46 little hatchlings were collected and taken to the dark side of the island to be released. A night stalk was scheduled for the evening activity so it was off to a great start with the little hatchlings. They raced down to the water in front of the lighthouse in front of absolutely ecstatic guests that were eagerly taking photos to remember the evening. Walking back from the Lighthouse everybody took much longer than normal to get back to their rooms because they were busy flicking through their digital cameras reminiscing on the day that they had enjoyed.
