What a day for Glassbottom boats, where SIX were held today, starting nice and early at 8:30am. There were massive turtles everywhere, Green and Loggerhead. Manta Rays glided along lazily at the Lighthouse, not bothered by their onlookers taking photos and cheering them when they gracefully performed a big sideways turn, without even rippling the water! Small reef sharks were spotted on a drift snorkel from the Lighthouse Bommies into Second reef, which had snorkellers excited.
The morning reefwalk in the lagoon encountered the striking red Pencil Slate urchin, masses upon masses of Blue Linckia Sea stars and a red-brown flatworm, moving slowly across its self secreted mat of mucus.
Fish Feeding invited those hungry fish back into the fish pool for a feed, where they darted around ankles and feet for a quick nibble before retreating back into their coral homes for a nap. The Picasso Triggerfish hung back, well behind the guide only sneaking in for a quick bite and trying to scoot away unseen.
Most guests took a seat in the Education centre after dinner for a viewing of “Australia’s Greatest Islands,” in which Lady Elliot is featured. Then it was off to bed to rest those tired eyes, getting ready to enjoy another perfect day on this beautiful Reef island.
Special Events / Activities: Congratulations to Daniel Dayman and Tamar Heighway who were married this afternoon in a beautiful sand ceremony at the Coral Gardens. |
