It was another chilly day wind wise, however it freshened around to the east making the lighthouse and coral gardens look like a postcard in the beautiful calm and sunny conditions.

The visibility was amazing with some slow moving Manta’s seen clearly under the glass bottom boat at the Lighthouse bommies, their unusual shape fascinated guests. Once in the water guests found the reef to be unbelievable. Beautiful purple angelfish, yellow butterfly fish, blue-green chromis, and parrotfish made the scene alive with colour. Everybody climbed back on the boat their eyes wide with excitement.

The divers also had an exciting morning over at Tubes receiving a visit from a silvertip shark that was over 3 metres in length. It was curious of the divers and they were curious of it as it circled around the group. Also on the dive were more turtles than you could ever imagine all pretty happy just chilling out on the reef. Project Manta also had a great morning amoung the plentiful Manta’s identifying some more individuals for their research.

In the evening guests had a great time listening to our special guest, David Ireland, tell some animated stories about his close brushes with wildlife around the world. One such story involved baboons at a place called leopard city in the heart of Africa. Needless to say David got into a pretty precarious position involving a huge male baboon which he only narrowly escaped from. By the end of the story you feel like you are there and you are sitting on the edge of your seat listening! He finished the tales by presenting his documentary on Kangaroo Island which guests loved.

Everybody then came back to the bar for a casual drink and a chat with David. It was an evening full of laughter, and some practical jokes involving fictitious wombats and most of all great memories. It’s great to have David here at Lady Elliot once again.
