Wow what a day! Clear skies as far as the eye can see and light south westerly wind made for premium conditions to get out amongst the action of the reef.
The visibility was fantastic. The only thing obscuring everybody’s view was the massive abundance of blue-green chromis fish! They were everywhere enjoying eating the plankton in the water and they looked spectacular as their bodies caught the light and reflected off in brilliant colours. About halfway through the snorkel a very special visitor showed up. It was a Dolphin! It came in very quickly and one guest received quite a fright before she realised what it was. It was leaping in and out of the water and chasing the fusiliers that were in the water and generally put on a show for all concerned. Guests were blown away. One lucky girl recorded the whole event on her camera and played it back to everybody as they sat there with smiles on their faces. It was incredible and it is something that they will never forget. It really was an amazing day with the reef and the fish looking as beautiful as ever. One guest approached the guide and said “I never believed that the reef could ever look like that!” Lady Elliot Island is a very special place.
In the evening a very vocal audience came to the education centre to watch the third state of origin for the year get played out on the big screen. It was a great game and a pretty crazy end to what was a very relaxing day out here on the Great Barrier Reef. |
