Once again an awesome day on Lady Elliot.
The morning brought some new life to the island with the discovery of six gorgeous little Buff-banded rail chicks near the reef units. After tumbling out from underneath Mum and Dad, they followed their parents around on clumsy little legs and offering delicate squawks in need on food from their parents. So so cute!!!
Glassbottom boaters immersed themselves in the underwater world with turtles and one lone Manta Ray at Second Reef. Zipping in and out of coral gullies were massive schools of Big-Eye Trevally and Scissor-Tail Fusiliers, giving an amazing show to their excited observers. Divers reported seeing Silvertip Reef sharks on their dive at the Severance Wreck in the Afternoon.
Afternoon island discoverers kept a lookout for the Tropic bird, nesting underneath Suite 3. It was sitting very securely on its egg, not allowing even a tiny glance by the elated audience. Night stalkers this evening ventured out to gaze in wonder at the bright stars and find NINE Green Tree Frogs along their walk. Three were playing house all squished up together in a pipe, and the other 6 were found in the drain behind house 2. What a nature-filled awesome day on this little speck of paradise. |
