Another day dawned bright and sunny on the island this morning as guests jumped into the lagoon for an early snorkel at high tide.
On the Glassbottom boat, heaps of Green turtles beckoned eager snorkelers to leap into the cool crisp waters, as a white-tipped reef shark swam on by the boat, heading right in under the glass. Morning divers at the Blowhole encountered massive schools of Big Eyed Trevally as they descended into their underwater playground.
Fish feeding as always invited crowds of fish into the fish pool for their daily snack. As they darted through ankles and legs to get their nibbles, the guide indicated the different types including the Sergeant Majors, Sea Mullet and Moon Wrasse. Afternoon divers descended into a big school of brightly coloured Parrotfish munching on the algae that grows on coral. Their munching mouths could be heard loud and clear by the divers. Also spotted were a Tawny Nurse shark and a Leopard shark lying comfortably on the sandy bottom.
By nightfall, guests gathered in the Education Centre for an electrifying performance by Wayne, on the beautiful and majestic sharks that inhabit the waters of Lady Elliot! After a chorus of “WOOHOO” and “YEE HAA” guests were well informed that they are quite safe to swim with sharks and interact with them in their world. |
