Starting off slightly cloudy, the day turned into a magnificent memory for all who experienced it.
The snorkel boat found whales and Manta Rays on the surface so visited with them for a while before having a closer look at the reef and enjoying the mesmerizing view through the glass bottom.
Afternoon Reefwalkers encountered seastars, a sea hare, the striking red pencil slate urchin, and a beautiful Tiger Cowrie shell on their sandy track through the Lagoon. Afternoon discovery tourers visited the Tropic Bird to once again try and catch a glimpse of his little head, but again, it was hiding under its parent’s wing. Three Tropic Birds were also seen in the sky, displaying their fabulous courting ritual where one will move its wings in such a way that it gives the appearance of flying backwards, and the other will fly steadily above it.
Evening nightstalkers wandered the island to find three gorgeous little frogs hiding out in a pipe along the path to the lighthouse. Four more were found in the drain outside the houses on the walk back. The silence of the night was much appreciated by guests as their guide pointed out the new power station and the reason that it is so silent at night (apart from the birds). |
