Well it was another picture perfect day as we enjoy the last few weeks of winter on the reef.
The visibility was remarkable and the glass bottom boat provided a perfect window to view the magic that was happening underwater. There was an abundance of plankton feeding fish such as the fusiliers and the chromis that were filling the scene with colour. The other fish that guests loved were the shy banded humbugs that would come up into the water and as guests advanced towards them would all hide back in the branching coral. Both the green and loggerhead turtles entertained guests being very friendly and interactive. Guests were blown away with the size of the loggerhead turtle that would have been approaching its maximum size of about 250kg. It was a happy old fella and appeared to smile at guests making them laugh.
Divers loved the Manta Rays today. Other animals were seen including turtles, sharks, nudibranchs you name it but it was really a manta dive today with guests happy to stay with them for the duration. This has got to be one of the most consistent places on the planet to see the mantas so if you’re interested and serious about getting amongst them then get out here! You will never forget the first time you see a manta it will blow you away.
At fish feeding the moon wrasse was the stand out fish with its vivid colours standing out remarkably against the turquoise water. They were very quick to grab the food and were even cheeky enough to give some of our guests a nibble on the legs!
In the evening guests came along to reef bingo for a good laugh then it was a few drinks and off to bed for another big day in the water tomorrow! |
