Massive Day for Lady Elliot Island today, the launch of the Solar Hybrid Power Station!!! Guests invited to this massive event included:
∗ Hon. Kate Jones MP – Minister for Climate Change and Sustainability and Member for Ashgrove ∗ Dr Russell Reichelt – Chairman and Chief executive Officer, Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority ∗ Daniel Gschwind – Chief Executive Officer, Queensland Tourism Industry Council ∗ Catherine George – Principal Project Officer, Department of Environment and Resource Management ∗ Kristie Gray – Business Development Manager, Ecotourism Australia
The day for our invited guests began with an introduction to the new Climate Change display, and the beginning of the Climate trail walk, leading over to the Hybrid power station. There, our unveiling ceremony took place. With Michael Kyle and Peter Gash (two of the lease holders of the island) the Honorable Kate Jones cut the ribbon to officially open the affectionately named “Green Machine”. Kristie Gray presented Peter Gash with our Advanced Ecotourism Certification, showing that Lady Elliot is now officially an Advanced Eco-Certified destination. A toast was made to the Green Machine and towards more research into reducing the effects of Climate Change. Afterwards a massive seafood buffet lunch was enjoyed in the dining room, overlooking the lagoon. Then our invited guests departed the island, and overnight guests ventured into the water for a welcoming cool down.
Night time called for a party, in Green theme of course, and the battle for coconut bowls champ began. After many awkward and slightly embarrassing techniques our overall champ was Ms Sam Bartlett!! Then the battle for limbo champ began and after bending backwards many times, our new reigning is champion, Miss Chloe Gash!!
