ISLAND LIFE
Critter Encounters:
This morning’s Glass bottom boat saw green turtles abounding and Manta rays swimming in formation alongside the vessel. A small manta ray of only 1metre wing span was spotted and aroused speculation as to whether it was a baby manta or another species.
The ever growing Red Tailed Tropic bird chicks are getting more “Ohhs” and “Arrs” as they get more confident and can now be clearly seen outside of the protective cover of their parent’s wing. Today for the first time we saw them panting to keep cool while sitting next to their parents ….. it is just amazing to have the opportunity to see unique birds growing up … really is the ultimate nature experience.
After the quiet of winter the staff are acclimatising again to the background chatter of the White Capped Noddies and bridled terns as they establish their nesting boundaries throughout the night.
Special Events / Activities:
Today is “Clean up the World Day”!! and the start of our Reef Rangers program for the School Holidays.
The resort started the day with a 5:45 sunrise beach clean up! However as our guests are encouraged to get into the relaxed island lifestyle most decided a sleep in was much more deserved. However this did not deter Goldie as she lead a walk around our glistening beaches inspecting any flotsam that had appeared over the evening high tide. We continued the theme with an underwater clean up dive at 1:45pm which was considered much more reasonable time and was well attended. Although finding any rubbish proved to be difficult on both counts (What can we say – we live in such a pristine environment!!) fun was had by all, with prizes awarded to two divers that managed to find a handful of line wrapped around a bommie.
The Festivities continued into the night with our “Go Green” party which was beautifully decorated by our intrepid Reef Rangers who worked hard throughout the day to get the conservation message out there!!
