ISLAND LIFE
Critter Encounters:
Our tropic bird chicks are having a great life, from the first one hatching on the 26th October we haven’t had a drop of rain! The proud parents were protectively nestled alongside Damien as he enjoyed basking in the sunshine today!
The Glass Bottom Boat was teeming with Green Turtles, and a gigantic school of Big-eye Trevally. After an amazing time snorkeling, the end of the trip was highlighted by a squadron of six Mantas that were, at first, mistaken for sharks as they had their wing tips slicing the top of the water.
Guests took to the water after lunch today, taking advantage of the high tide and exploring the lagoon underwater world. The lagoon snorkeling in Channel One is just spectacular, as shallow sheltered waters make it for a nice and easy experience for all ages, however the critter encounters are second to none, with a field of Anemones along with there Anemones Fishes darting into their mantels being a highlight to capture a glimpse of the legendary Nemo. Close encounters with turtles of all ages that just seem to search out people to swim around and show off their aerobatic displays. Eagle rays, and small black tip reef sharks are very common swimming along the shores of the sandy seashore. A complete experience no one should miss, and today was the busiest that we have seen the lagoon area with both guests and wildlife partaking in an idyllic day!
Special Events / Activities:
The reefwalk today was a tranquil wander among the calm micro atolls. The amazing multi-coloured hues of the burrowing clams inspired all, and the leopard spotted sea cucumber showed how it ejects it white cuvarian threads to protect itself from predators.
Reef Rangers had an AWESOME time with Jess today building sand sculptures and taking part in the “Save the Sea Cucumber” mission. As the budding Marine Biologists described it …… They found an “enormous”, “Cool”, “Wicked”, “Amazing”, “Ugly?”, crab on the beach that was “Huge”.
A very special day ….. on a coral cay ….. in paradise today!
Special Guests:
Today we farewell Steve and Tish Carter, reluctantly heading home to chilly Tasmania.
