ISLAND LIFE

Critter Encounters:
A beautiful calm day today on the protected eastern side of the island, and early risers found the ideal way to start the day with a picture perfect reefwalk.

Guests attending the Historical tour were very excited about the resorts move towards alternate energy with the hybrid power station plans for the future.  The plans for this project have now been finalised and the schedule is set.  We commence construction on the 29th October and expect to commission our new power station around the 5th December.  Very exciting to think that the resort is making the move towards solar power ….. Doing our bit to prevent the effects of climate change, by reducing our carbon emissions.

With the water warming up everyone is being tempted to spend as much time as possible in the water.  The glass bottom boat and snorkel safari were reported to have seen “EVERYTHING” – turtles mating, mantas gliding, whales breaching – just awesome.  The divers also took advantage of the calm water and dropped into the blowhole for their morning dive – spotting grouper, bull rays, moray eels, sharks and huge schools of trevally.

The growth of the Red-tailed Tropic Bird chicks is just astounding, the chicks are feed by both parents an amazing amount of regurgitated fish ( yummy ), by the time the chick is 11 weeks old it will be larger than the parents.  They will then fly off, leaving the chick to sit and continue its’ development.  The chick will fly off across the ocean when it is about 12 weeks of age.

There was a huge turnout of fish for fish feeding, and as always our reef rangers led by intrepid Jess were there to make sure it was the fish that got the food and not the seagulls!.

Special Guests:

27 Picton High School students from Canberra joined us for a day of fun in the sun !
