For years i wanted to go to The Great Barrier Reef, i tried to convince my parents to go there for their honeymoon, but was unsuccessful in doing so, so when I found out that our school would be going there for a school camp i was over the moon. It was the morning of the school camp and we were all freezing our butts off at school waiting to board the bus on the way to the airport, i was so nervous, I'd never been on a plane before and i was worrying about everything, was the engine going to be okay, were we going to crash, but i had great friends there supporting me. When arriving to the airport the staff helped us out really well and it wasnt long before the first group was ready for the flight, i was one on the first flight, by now i was getting really nervous about the trip, and it wasnt long before i was sitting inside the plane. a plane had taken off just minutes before us and i began to shake, then our plane started off and we were off, i was a bit teary at first but once we were in the air for awhile it wasnt so bad. When the plane landed on the Island, it was beautiful, the island was so clean, so gorgeous and clear, we had such beautiful weather, the birds were flying high and everything on the island was so bright and full of life. we were greeted by such friendly staff that showed us around. It wasnt long before the whole group arrived and we all settled down for lunch. The food there was amazing, so Fresh, full of variety, it catered everyone so well on the Island. Later that afternoon, we went for our first dive, the water was incredible as well as the life under it, so clear, so pretty, and it was all natural. Everything on the island was so looked after, they showed us how they use there electricity, how they get water on to the island and how to save on energy and supplies. The following night we had a special guest come and talk to us about his job being a wildlife documentry person, his name being David Island, it was incredible hearing and seeing the things he's seen and done, the pictures and videos that he showed us were absolutely incredible. I think the thing i enjoyed most about visiting the island was how peaceful it was, no reception, just you and the island, we got to encounter so many wonderful things but i think a major highlight was seeing baby turtles hatch from their eggs and run to the shore, it was absolutely inspirational. My friends and i enjoyed the island so much we are looking at coming to the island every year just to have a holiday on such a peaceful well looked after island, we loved it and we have the photos to prove it!! |
